A Piece of the Aran Islands

Each of these pieces has been
carefully chosen, handcrafted
and polished from the Lower
CarboniferousLimestone of the
Aran Islands which stretch
across the mouth of Galway Bay
on the west coast of Ireland.

This Limestone is formed
from the solidified muddy
sediment of a tropical sea
that covered this part of
the globe over 300 million
years ago.It preserves a
wealth of fossil remains-
shellfish,sea lilies, coral,
extinct animals and plants
which were abundant
in that sea.

When magnified the details
of these are fascinating.
